Background
I have over 20 years experience in Broadcast Media Production and I bring that experience into the classroom. My approach to teaching multimedia within the Media Arts field is by focusing on creating short-form digital media productions and visual communication content across all platforms including interactive and emerging media strategies. My teaching philosophy calls for a strong integration of theory and practice. I put emphasis on the creative process and the thoughtful execution of hands-on assignments. I encourage students to utilize their creative digital media knowledge and skills gained to help communicate pressing social and civic issues that make a difference in their lives.

Research
My research interests focus on science communication, emergent media, indigenous storytelling, and utilization of creative communication for civic engagement. I believe multimedia creative works should encourage communication and further exploration to help make a difference in promoting the quality of life for our communities. This has led me to my work with the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement (NCSCE), Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities (SENCER) and SENCER Hawaiʻi, helping to bridge indigenous knowledge and science to more effectively inform the public about evidence-based information that is important in their life decisions.
