Bachelor and Master of Arts (BAM) in Communicology

Communicology BAM students develop a scientific understanding of human communication. The program focuses on how people understand, relate, and influence each other and provides opportunities to explore extensions of these topics in intercultural, group, conflict, deception, leadership, instructional, family, and health contexts. Students learn to communicate effectively, to help others be more effective communicators, and to ask and answer questions about human communication.

COMG Courses

Additional Details

The BAM program enables motivated students to earn a COMG Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a COMG Master of Arts (MA) degree together, saving time and money. In this program, 9 credits (3 courses) count for both degrees, accelerating progress. Moreover, the fourth year combines undergraduate and graduate courses, but students pay the lower undergraduate tuition rate, reducing overall costs.

To be formally eligible to enter the COMG BAM pathway, students must earn a “B” or better in at least one of two “gateway” courses:

  • COMG 302 Research Methods (3), or
  • COMG 371 Creating Understanding (3)

Additional timeline highlights include:

  • Third (junior) year – Students apply for admission to the COMG MA program the following fall.
  • Fourth (senior) year – Students take a combination of undergraduate and graduate classes, all at the undergraduate tuition rate.
  • Fifth (last) year – Students complete remaining MA requirements.
