Library and Information Science

Founded in 1965, the Library and Information Science (LIS) Program prepares reflective, compassionate professionals who serve and lead in libraries, archives and other information environments, with an emphasis on Hawaiʻi and the Asia-Pacific region. Our program is accredited by the American Library Association, and our goals are:

  1. Nurture a professional LIS community where Native Hawaiian concepts and values support well-being and knowledge building among all members.
  2. Faculty, students and staff collaborate to enhance the overall student experience by evolving a program that prepares students to thrive in the present and future workplace.
  3. Broaden outreach and increase community engagement and advocacy in addressing community information needs and challenges.
  4. Undertake, document and share research and creative activities with social impact.
