SCI Chair Dr. Hye-ryeon Lee welcomes students to “The Human Connection.”

In today’s interconnected and rapidly evolving world, strong communication skills are essential across all disciplines and industries. Many students assume that technical skills and good grades alone will get them hired. In reality, employers consistently rank communication and collaboration as top skills they look for in new hires.

To help students’ career readiness, the School of Communication and Information hosted “The Human Connection: Communication Skills for Professional and Personal Success.”  The October 29th talk story event focused on the critical role human communication plays in success in any career. Students heard real-life experiences from a panel of professionals representing a variety of fields: Lori Lum, Senior VP at Anthology Marketing Group, Jeff Hui, Founder & CEO of Jumpstart AI, and Lisa Park, RN & Doctor of Nursing Practice student. In conversation with Dr. Krystyna Aune (Communicology) and Bernadette Baraquio (College of Social Sciences), they encouraged students to cultivate communication skills during college & to take courses where they can develop competencies in interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and collaboration.
