Background
Born and raised in South Korea, I developed a deep interest in media and communication from an early age. My academic journey led me to earn a Master’s in Public Relations from Kansas State University and a PhD in Mass Communications from Pennsylvania State University, where I researched the impact of avatar customization on health communication in virtual environments. Currently, I focus on the social and psychological impacts of immersive media, including virtual environments and video games. My work aims to enhance the quality of life through innovative applications in health, education, and marketing.

My primary focus is on the effects of immersive new media, such as virtual environments and video games. These technologies have significantly impacted communication dynamics and lifestyles. My research aims to provide theoretical insights into new media technologies, including interactivity and presence, to understand user behavior and enhance quality of life in health, education, and marketing. I also develop new media intervention programs for groups in need, such as older adults, obese children, and autistic children, to improve their well-being through innovative applications of interactive technologies.
