Background

I am an information scientist who teaches in the Archives pathway within the LIS program. I grew up in Michigan and completed all my education there, including my MSI and PhD at the University of Michigan School of Information. Before and during graduate school, I worked in a variety of library, archive, and museum collections. I’ve worked as a cataloger in a textile museum collection, a project archivist for corporate archives and a labor union, a reference librarian, and as a library conservation technician. These experiences inform both my teaching and research.

Research

My research investigates data practices in library, archive, and museum (LAM) collections from an intersectional feminist lens. Specifically, I am interested in understanding how various communities create and manage digital systems that are sustainable, maintainable, and resistant to the oppressive harms built into our society, and what barriers LAM professionals face when attempting to do so. I also research the ways that museum data work has historically and continues to be gendered, and the larger implications of that. I generally use qualitative methods to investigate these topics, including archival research and interview studies.
